  After 2 failed attempts of trying to find good food in Winchester/Alresford we ended up at the Golden Lion very hungry! As food connisseurs we found the food was amazing!!! The chips didn't ooze grease so they regularly change the oil... lamb shank and steak was premium quality unlike the supermarket value meat served by another pub we refused to eat earlier in the day... veg perfectly cooked with that little bit of crunch. To top the food rating it was a very reasonable price and amazing service. Would therefore highly recommend this real gem. Too many pubs and restaurants that unfortunately focus on decor rather than the quality of food these day. After a day out in Weymouth we drove all the way back to Winchester to eat there again the second day!

  Wow. We had our first visit to this gorgeous pub today and I've never been made to feel more welcome. Despite Christmas Eve madness and the pub being full to the brim, the landlord gave us his undivided attention whilst serving us drinks, insisting we try the wine before deciding on what glass to choose. He was so apologetic that the kitchen was closed (it was mid afternoon so completely acceptable!) so he gave us bowls to put our nibbles in to make it more special. He found us a table amongst the beautifully decorated pub and and brought us complimentary mince pies to enjoy. Such amazing service for just one round of drinks! As we left the pub we made a pact to do Christmas drinks here every year, though I know we'll be back long before then. Thank you to the landlord for making our Christmas Eve drink so special!

  Very friendly and great service. Not the biggest menu but food was excellent. Catered for lots of dietary requirements as well.
